The rumour mill has well and truly been spinning, and Doctor Who fans are all saying Rose Ayling-Ellis will be joining the new series as Ncuti Gatwa’s companion.

The Sex Education star will be taking over from Jodie Whittaker next year following the 60th anniversary of the show that will see the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble.

Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney has also been confirmed as a new Rose, although it is unclear whether she is a version of Billie Piper’s Rose or a new character entirely.

Now, speculations have begun around who will be joining Gatwa as the Doctor’s trusty companion and Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis seems to be the favourite.

It started when the actress quit EastEnders after two years of playing Frankie Lewis and began following Gatwa, showrunner Russell T Davies and casting director Andy Pryor on Instagram not long after.

If that wasn’t enough, when asked what was next for her, Rose told The Mirror: “You will find out more at the end of this month. I’m not allowed to say anything.”

This, of course, spurred a lot of rumours about whether the Strictly winner could possibly be clearing her calendar to join Doctor Who.

Fans of the show took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “Rose Ayling-Ellis has spoken on her new job role.. 'you will find out more at the end of this month. I’m not allowed to say anything.' I wonder if this could be for #DoctorWho?"

Another said: “Doctor Who is one of my all time favourite shows, and if Rose Ayling-Ellis turns out to be the new companion, I think I’d pass out with the excitement!! 👏🏻😄Please let this be true! 🙏🏻🤞🏻❤️”

A third tweeted: “Rose Ayling-Ellis as the new companion seems more plausible than most rumours! #doctorwho”.

Of course, there has been no confirmation from the Doctor Who team or Rose just yet but we’ll have to see what news the end of this month brings!
