You’d think that a Hollywood megastar ordering from a restaurant in a small English town would be a big deal. But it turns out that nobody at the Light of India curry house even knew that Ryan Reynolds had eaten at their establishment, even though he declared it to be the “best Indian food in Europe”.

The Deadpool star, who was in the UK to watch his beloved football club, Wrexham FC, smash Maidstone 5-0, took to Instagram on Saturday (20th August) to share a picture of the restaurant’s menu writing: “Best Indian food in Europe”.

Whilst he praised Light of India, which is based in the Cheshire town of Ellesmere Port, to his 44 million followers, it transpires that the owners of the restaurant, The Rahaman family, didn’t realise they were dishing up food for a superstar. Shah Rahaman from the family told LADbible that he wasn’t working at the time, and that his mum and dad were on duty. He said, after getting the shock of seeing their menu on the actor’s Instagram: “I ran into my mum and dad saying, ‘Did Ryan Reynolds come into the restaurant?’. They said, ‘Who is Ryan Reynolds?’”

And so the family don’t actually know what food was ordered, or indeed whether the star came in himself, or arranged a takeaway.

Shah said: “The next morning he posted and it’s just really bizarre and overwhelming with both the positives and the kind words we’ve been getting from people.”

The Light of India restaurant in Ellesmere Port has been run over three generations since 1980, and this new endorsement from Reynolds will certainly do them no harm. Shah told LADbible: “We might even dedicate a dish to him – the Deadpool Masala.”

Ryan Reynolds has been a regular visitor to the UK since he teamed up with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney to buy Wrexham FC in 2020. The two stars - who knew very little about football when they bought Wrexham - have since filmed a documentary about their experience, called Welcome To Wrexham.

Welcome to Wrexham will drop on Disney+ in the UK later this week, on August 25th.
