Bill Bailey has started his 100-mile walk in memory of fellow comedian and good friend Sean Lock.

Lock passed away from lung cancer aged 58 in August 2021, and to commemorate his life a year on, Bill is undertaking the impressive feat to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Bailey has been joined by some of Lock’s friends, including Lee Mack while on the 100-mile walk, which was inspired by the hikes Bailey and Lock used to do together.

The seven-day walk started at Bude in Cornwall on Tuesday (2nd August) and will end in Combe Martin in Devon, which was one of the duo's favourite routes, according to Bailey.

The Strictly Come Dancing winner has been keeping fans and fundraisers updated via his JustGiving page, sharing a smiling selfie with Mack while “on the trail.”

On the JustGiving page, Bailey wrote: “This August, it will be one year since we lost the brilliant comedian, and my dear friend Sean Lock to cancer, I will be taking on a 100-mile walk along a section of the South West Coast Path to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provided such wonderful support for Sean and his family.

“On the 7-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, one of our favourite routes, I will be joined by Sean’s family and friends. The walk will be a chance to get together and celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much. Every penny donated will help Macmillan to provide emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer in the UK.”

On Tuesday, Bailey posted a photo all ready for his walk with some of the Lock’s nearest and dearest, and wrote: “We’re off! 100 miles for ⁦Macmillan Cancer Support.”

At the time of writing, Bailey has raised £71,388, even though he’s only just set off on his adventure.

Back in February, the Black Books star made sure to mark the six-month anniversary of Lock’s death with a sweet tribute post to social media

In the photo he shared to Twitter, the funnymen were stood in a field with their arms across each other’s shoulders.

It’s not the first time the telly star has shared a loving tribute to his friend.

Back on Christmas Day, Bill shared another picture, seemingly on another countryside walk, and wrote: “Today I’m thinking about my old pal Sean Lock, and his family. And I’m sending out good thoughts to all those of you who are missing someone today.”
