Following the England women’s team’s triumph at Euro 2022, a Domino’s branch has found an interesting way of paying tribute to one of the Lionesses, by rebranding one of its outlets after Lucy Bronze, who used to work there.

The branch in Headingley has been temporarily renamed Lucy’s, in celebration of the footballer, who worked there as a chef when she was studying at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Since being at university and working at the pizza restaurant, the right-back has gone on to play for Sunderland, Everton, Liverpool, Lyon and Manchester City, and is now at Barcelona. In 2019 she became the first English footballer to win the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award, and was named Best FIFA Women’s Player in December 2020. She has been named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year twice.

The right-back played a pivotal role at the Euros, scoring in the semi-final against Sweden and being involved in the build-up to the winning goal against Germany in the final on Sunday (31st July). England defeated Germany 2-1 in a nail-biting match which went to extra-time, with Chloe Kelly prodding in the winner following a corner, to send the Wembley crowd wild.

Not only has Domino’s changed the signage of its storefront by way of honouring its former staff member, but its delivery drivers are also sporting special bronze helmets.

Operations director at Domnio's, Ricky Kandola, said: “We have always been proud of Lucy’s journey from pizza to pitch.”

The rebrand will remain in place until this Friday (5th August), as the country continues to celebrate the Lionesses’ magnificent performance at Euro 2022.

England’s player’s toasted their historic win with a parade at London’s Leicester Square yesterday (1st August), attended by thousands of joyous supporters.
