Encouraging news for those who are too busy to get their daily dose of exercise as a new study from the US and UK reveals that weekend warriors get very similar long term health outcomes as those who do a little exercise every day.

The data from two studies has now been published, looking at 350,000 Americans and 63,000 Brits, followed for over a decade and focusing on how and when they exercise.

Predictably, the ones with the lowest mortality risk were the ones who exercised for twenty minutes or more every day and the ones with the highest were the couch potatoes, but what surprised the scientists investigating was how well the weekend warriors did. Those who were too busy to exercise a little every day, but who took those twenty minutes per day and did them all at once, or spread them over Saturday and Sunday, did nearly as well as the daily dosers.

So if you have a super busy week, go for it on the weekend, that three hour bike ride on Sunday, that 75 minute jog or workout on both days will do you the power of good!

Mind blowing news from Canada where the remains of the oldest brain ever found has been uncovered in the Rocky Mountains and it’s over half a billion years old.

The ice has perfectly preserved the animal’s complete central nervous system which provides palaeontologists with an unprecedented insight into these fascinating ancestors of modern insects, spiders and crustaceans.

It’s called Stanleycaris hirpex and they’re describing it as ‘the stuff of nightmares’ - picture a three foot long prawn with three eyes and spiked claws and you’re pretty much there.

Stanley was alive during the Cambrian Explosion, around 506 million years ago and normally soft tissue from these kinds of creatures would be long gone, but scientists are hopping from one foot to the other at the fact it’s like this animal died yesterday! They can even see and study the visual processing core of its giant third eye which enabled it to see in dark and deep water.
