Remember that internet trend of people baking cakes to look like very convincing inanimate objects? Well, now it’s a TV show.

There was a time when you couldn’t scroll through social media without wondering whether everything you saw was actually a cake.

In 2021, the trend went viral with some very talented bakers posting videos of objects such as toilet roll, a potted plant or even a pair of shoes, and taking a knife to them only to reveal they were actually cakes.

It blew people’s minds and attracted a lot of attention.

So, now Netflix has made it into a baking competition.

The show will see a panel of celebrity judges contemplate an array of realistic baked goods that look like other objects made by contestants to answer the ultimate question: Is It Cake?

It’s like The Masked Singer, but instead of guessing which celebrity is inside, they have to guess if there is cake inside.

The star-studded judging panel will feature SNL’s Heidi Gardner, comedian Fortune Feimster, Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown, Loni Love, Michael Yo, Bobby Moynihan, Rebecca Black, King Princess, Arturo Castro, and internet queen Brittany Broski.

Mikey Day, also known for his work on SNL, will be steering the ship as host of the show.

In the competition, the bakers- Andrew Fuller, April Julian, Dessiree Salaverria, Hemu Basu, Jonny Manganello, Justin Rasmussen-Ellen, Nina Charles, Sam Cade, and Steve Weiss- will go head to head to convince the judges that their cakes are actual objects with the top three bakers winning the grand prize of $50,000.

Speaking in the trailer, Manganello said: “What I do is the weirdest thing in the world.

“Like, there are people saving lives, and I am making cake look like other things.”

The show airs on 18 March 2022 on Netflix, and we cannot wait.
