The 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in the US overnight, and some of the most talked about TV shows of the past year picked up accolades.

At the event in Santa Monica, California, everyone’s favourite family drama, Succession, won the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series award, beating The Handmaid's Tale, The Morning Show, Squid Game and Yellowstone. The award was accepted by Brian Cox, scary old Logan Roy, with his co-stars surrounding him onstage.

Meanwhile, while several Succession stars were nominated for individual awards, it was Netflix’s violent drama Squid Game that won big. Lee Jung-Jae was recognized for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, beating Succession’s Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin.

Similarly, Squid Game’s Jung Ho-yeon won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, ahead of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon from The Morning Show, Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaid's Tale, and Succession’s Sarah Snook.

The hit South Korean show also took out the Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series award.

Football-themed feelgood sitcom Ted Lasso picked up the prize for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, and Jason Sudeikis won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as the titular character, beating his castmate Brett Goldstein.

Elsewhere in the television categories, Kate Winslet won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Mare of Easttown, and Michael Keaton won the male equivalent for Dopesick.

In the film categories, Will Smith took out Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in King Richard, and Jessica Chastain won Best Female for The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film is a coming-of-age drama about a high school student who aspires to be a singer and is the only hearing member of her deaf family.

The new Bond film, No Time To Die, won Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
