Fans have been complaining they lost their successful 'streak'.
If you haven't heard of it, Wordle is the game many people have been playing that involves guessing the letters and figuring out a different word each day.
It was such a success that the New York Times purchased it.
Many users are now unhappy, saying their "streaks" of successfully completing the word game has been ‘reset to 1’.
The New York Times has now said they are "currently investigating" the problem.
The game was made by Josh Wardle for his wife, and he never expected it to be such a success, which he found "overwhelming."
His deal with the NYT was reported to be "in the low seven figures", with Josh confirming: "When the game moves over to the NYT site, it will be free to play for everyone, and I am working with them to make sure your wins and streaks will be preserved."
After the switchover happened with the link now redirecting to a New York Times URL, some fans noticed their streak figure had gone.
Users posted their disappointment on Twitter.
"The NYT erasing everyone’s wordle streaks is going to be the start of so many villain origin stories,", wrote one fan.
Another wrote: "This should not matter to me but the New York Times just erased my Wordle streak on me!? Boooooooooooooooo."
"My Wordle tab reloaded today and redirected me to the NYT webpage and got rid of my streak i am actually fuming,’ added another.
The NYT told Metro: "We are aware of the issue and are currently investigating"
Josh said the game became "bigger than I ever imagined".
"I am just one person, and it is important to me that, as Wordle grows, it continues to provide a great experience to everyone," he added.
"Given this, I am incredibly pleased to announce that I’ve reached an agreement with the New York Times for them to take over running Wordle going forward."
Fans had previously been annoyed in the UK by falling foul of US variations of spelling.
Others have been sharing their top tips for winning the game.
