Netflix has announced a release date for the hit series, starring Ricky Gervais, for the beginning of next year.

The show follows Tony Johnson (Gervais), an irritable local news reporter in the town of Tambury, who is grieving the loss of his wife and attempting to find the purpose of living.

It was an instant hit, and fans have been waiting for the announcement of the third and final season since the last one aired in April last year.

Well, we won’t have to wait much longer as Netflix has confirmed After Life will arrive on the platform on 14 January.

The streaming service made the announcement in a tweet that said: “Ricky Gervais, Brandy the dog and After Life return for one final season 14 January.”

Despite the popularity of the show and disappointment from fans that this will be the final season, Gervais has said he will not be making a fourth.

In an interview with the Mirror Online, he said: “I’ve already made my mind up, there won’t be a four.

“You do put those things out there to make you remember as it’s tempting but…there’s an old saying: ‘to lead the orchestra, you’ve got to turn your back on the audience.’”

Don’t be too upset because the comedian has said there is more to come from him.

He said: “I’ve got it down to three totally different ideas, and Netflix has already bought it because I told them I want to end After Life now, and so they said, ‘Okay, we want the next thing.’

“We will just start with the next thing, same deal, but I don’t know which one I’m going to go for. I can’t even think about it yet. I have got the outline of three completely different sorts of sitcoms and shows.”

Oh, and for those of you who were worried Brandy the dog was going to die in season 3 of After Life, Ricky has confirmed that definitely will not be happening.

Phew!

After Life season three will be available to watch on Netflix on 14 January 2022.
