When you think back to signing up to social media platforms, your first post probably wasn’t particularly memorable or impressive, was it? It was likely something along the lines of “My first tweet,” which got precisely zero likes. But then, you’re not Avril Lavigne, are you? It’s safe to say that the Canadian singer/songwriter joined TikTok pretty impressively this week.

On Monday (21st June), the 36-year-old musician made her first TikTok post, and it sent the internet absolutely wild. The clip shows Lavigne sitting on a skate-ramp in a T-shirt/tie combo, lip-syncing to her 2002 single and, let’s be honest, absolute banger, Sk8er Boi. So far, so on-brand.

But there’s more. The camera then zooms in on her tie, and when it zooms out again, it’s being worn by none other than the ultimate Sk8er Boi, Tony Hawk. He proceeds to skate on the half-pipe, as the song continues to play.

Sure, the whole thing is a bit baffling, but commenters on social media absolutely loved the little trip back to the noughties. The clip has had almost 11 million views so far, with one person describing it as, “the best tiktok i've ever seen.”

Another commented, “What in 2003 is this???”

Many of the comments have focused on Avril Lavigne's appearance. One person said, “Girl hasn’t aged since 2000.”

Someone else added, “So… we all just non-ageing vampires now?”

“She looks the same what,” another comment read.

Lavigne’s introduction to TikTok is probably the most impressive debut since Jennifer Aniston smashed the internet when she belatedly decided to join Instagram in 2019.

Avril Lavigne hasn’t been back on TikTok yet with a follow-up video, but we look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

Oh, and if you’re anything like us, you’re going to have Sk8er Boi stuck in your head for the rest of the day now!
