George Clooney has swapped Hollywood roles for bread rolls. The A-lister is starring as his most carb-heavy character yet for bakery brand Warburtons. Fear not, he hasn't run out of acting work - all his fee is going to his charity Clooney Foundation For Justice.

Appearing alongside bakery boss Jonathan Warburton, the actor stars in the more-salivating-than-smouldering role in the new minute-long ad which drops on ITV on May 8.

Bread boss Jonathan can be seen lovingly preparing a piece of toast, but is then interrupted by a colleague who tells him about the celebrity guest wanting to speak to him.

She says: "Mr Warburton, George Clooney is on the line!"

Cue George as he attempts to speak to the boss – who's too busy eating his toast to talk to the movie star.

"Mr Warburton? Johnny? Are you on mute?"

Mr W says: "It can wait," and closes the laptop.

George then says: "Mr. Warburton? He hung up?

"Nah... he's there. He's making toast!"

Previously speaking about his role, Clooney said: "It’s not every day your call is turned down for a slice of toast, but needless to say I had a lot of fun filming this spot.

"It was great working with the Warburtons team and I’m thankful for the support they are providing to the Clooney Foundation For Justice."

Jonathan added: "We are thrilled to have George Clooney star in our latest campaign.

"Video calls have become part of normal life for so many of us during the last year, but George Clooney popping up on screen was quite a surprise!

"At Warburtons, we pride ourselves on the care that goes into making sure that every single loaf is as fresh and high quality as possible.

"Quality is truly at the heart of our 145-year-old business and this new ad is a real celebration of that passion, and we hope it will bring a smile to those watching."

The Clooney Foundation For Justice was founded by the actor and his international human rights lawyer wife Amal.

George follows in the footsteps of Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone by appearing in the bread-based ad.
