For those of us who love nothing more than being scared silly, this is great news.

The creator of the franchise, Oren Peli is back onboard too. We don't have details about the plot just yet, but according to it will feature the same classic 'found footage' style as the previous films.

Filmmaker Will Eubank is said to be directing with Jason Blum and Oren Peli producing.

Get your diary ready, as it has a possible release date of 4th March 2022. With the pandemic though, things are always changing - so who knows.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Christopher Landon tweeted: "I'm really excited for this - mainly because no one could possibly guess what new, crazy nightmares ⁦@superswift⁩ and I are cooking up. Expect the unexpected."

There are six - yes, six! - films to date, since the release of the first back in 2007.

Paranormal Activity 2

followed in 2010, a third in 2011, and the fourth in 2012.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

followed in 2014, while the final film,

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension

hit cinemas in 2015.

It's been a long wait for another addition to the collection.

Peli wrote, directed and shot the first film. The style of filming, using video, phone and CCTV footage style were groundbreaking for the genre.

Many people were so convinced by it, that they googled to see if it was real!

Better late than never!
