The Cure's Robert Smith goes viral for being his wonderfully deadpan self

Some bands love the red carpet, others don't seem too fussed...

Just before being inducted at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York this weekend, The Cure's Robert Smith took to the red carpet to discuss the usual in career, accolades and music.

Their interviewer was more than enthusiastic, admitting to being a huge fan. “Congratulations The Cure – Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees 2019! Are you as excited as I am?!” she asked.

Offering a typically-deadpan and blunt reply, Smith said: “By the sounds of it, no.”

The clip has since gone viral, seeing over 123k likes and 36k retweets and comments such as:

"The is the most and best British thing I have ever seen"

"You can take a goth out of Crawley..."

“This is the funniest start to an interview ever” 

Tim Pope, the band's video director also tweeted the video, saying this was his “favourite moment” from the entire event.
