The fonts were created for personal use with the aim to inspire musicians to write in the mindset of their heroes.

Designers Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens decided to convert the handwritings of great artists such as David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg into digital typefaces.

Carefully constructed from personal letters, notes, postcards and in the case of Kurt Cobain, his tragic suicide letter.

Damiens and Sens explained this project as a way of helping musicians to follow in the paths of their idols:

Each digital typeface comes with a short explanation: Cobain as the originator of grunge culture, Bowie as the unconventional writer, Lennon as perhaps one of the most influential artists ever; and highlighting the multi-faceted and poetic roots of Cohen and Gainsbourg.

Unfortunately due to an 'unanticipatedly high' and popular demand, the site has been shut down due to legal reasons. However, the project was a great source of inspiration while it lasted. Long live the greats, even through digital typefaces.
