Slaves are determined to bring ‘real music’ back.

The punk duo from Kent, Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman, were nominated for last year’s Mercury Prize for their debut album , and they are currently winning a legion of new fans on the UK festival scene.

And they believe people are ready for a return to music in a more raw form.

“I really genuinely believe the world wants real music back,” Laurie told Edith Bowman at T in the Park. “We’re more conservative now. Abba were more daring than a lot of our pop bands now!

“I could put a Calvin Harris mask on, or a David Guetta mask, and I could press play on one of their tracks!”

The duo formed in 2012, and admitted they finally felt they had found their musical soulmate.

“We’ve both been looking for the same band all our lives,” Laurie added. “We took 18 years of our lives to find each and during that time I played with every other musician in Kent because that’s what you do growing up, but no one wanted to play punk music.

“We were the first person each other met who cared as much about the visual aspect as we did the music. You want the crowd to feel as much a part of the show as you. They are as important as us.”
