As the Gallagher brothers prepare to play at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield, fans and tourist may face a rooming nightmare during the city’s busiest season.

Oasis fans! The Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, have finally decided to put their long-standing feud aside and reunite for a series of massive gigs in 2025, marking a moment that fans have dreamed about for years.

Announced on 27th August, this highly anticipated reunion will see the iconic band take to the stage in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Dublin, and yes, Edinburgh.

The news has hit the internet like a Champagne Supernova, with die-hard Oasis fans buzzing louder than the amps at Knebworth.

But as the brothers prepare to bring their rock ‘n’ roll swagger back to Scotland, there’s a bit of a hiccup—one that could leave fans looking for somewhere to stay out in the cold.

That’s right, the same festival that transforms the city into a mecca for performers, tourists, and art lovers alike every August.

For those who don’t know, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is no small fry.

In 2024, it spanned 25 days, boasting over 51,446 performances of 3,317 shows across 262 venues.

It’s a massive celebration of the arts, attracting crowds from all corners of the globe.

In fact, the only events that surpass it in size are the Olympics and the World Cup.

So, while Oasis might be thinking they’ll be the biggest thing in town, they might find themselves competing for attention—and beds.

Here’s where it gets tricky. Edinburgh’s accommodation options are already stretched thin during the Fringe, with hotel occupancy rates reaching a staggering 80% in the summer of 2019, and maintaing that rate even post-pandemic at 74.2% in 2022.

In a city with only 13,180 hotel bedrooms, 1,488 serviced apartments, and a smattering of other options like hostels, B&Bs, and Airbnbs, the demand during August is through the roof.

Fans heading to the Oasis gigs might want to get their hotel bookings sorted before they even buy their ticket, so they Don’t Look Back in Anger, as the Roll With It around the streets of Edinburgh in the early hours, looking for somewhere to crash.

Prices are set to surge as they always do during the Fringe, so unless you’re ready to pay top dollar, you might be left out in the cold—literally.

The Gallagher brothers have famously never been ones to shy away from a challenge, but they might have overlooked the logistical nightmare this clash presents.

With the entire city swamped by both the Fringe and the International Festival, finding a place to stay could become as epic a battle as the infamous sibling rivalry that’s kept Oasis apart for so long.

And let’s not forget, the band has deep roots in Scotland. It was at Glasgow’s King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in 1993 that Alan McGee of Creation Records first discovered them. So, the Scottish fans are particularly keen to see the lads back where it all began.

The official Oasis website has advised fans to register in advance for tickets, with sales opening at 9 am on 31st August.

But here’s some additional advice for those planning to see the band in Edinburgh: if you haven’t sorted your accommodation yet, do it now.

Otherwise, you might find yourself on a Slide Away from the city’s overbooked hotels, straight to the nearest park bench.

While we wait for the reunion gigs to kick off, Oasis fans can look forward to the 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Definitely Maybe, dropping on August 30th, 2024.

But in the meantime, it’s best to sort your sleeping arrangements before all the good spots are taken.

The last thing you want is to be humming Cigarettes & Alcohol in a bus shelter because there’s no room at the inn.
