Clarkson's yearly results day ritual is back, reminding students that life isn't all about the grades.

It’s that time of year again—A-Level Results Day! A day of joy for some, despair for others, and a good old dose of perspective from none other than Jeremy Clarkson.

For the past decade, the former Top Gear host has made it his personal mission to swoop in on results day with his iconic blend of wit and reassurance.

And guess what? 2024 is no different.

Clarkson has once again taken to Twitter to remind students that, despite the nail-biting anticipation and stress surrounding their results, a few letters on a page aren’t the be-all and end-all.

His message? You might not have nailed your A-levels, but there’s still a world of opportunity out there—just ask the man with a pub, a brewery, and a history of turning petrolhead TV into pure gold.

This year, Clarkson’s tweet was as predictably unpredictable as ever: “Don’t worry if your A level results aren’t what you were hoping for. I got a C and two Us, and here I am, 46 years later, with my own pub. It opens next weekend if you fancy dropping in.”

Classic Clarkson, blending a dash of self-deprecation with a healthy serving of humble-bragging and a side of self-promotion.

For a man who spent years driving around in supercars and bickering with his co-hosts, Clarkson has an uncanny ability to make results day feel a bit less like the end of the world and more like a pit stop on the road of life.

His message has resonated with students year after year, offering a moment of levity amid the stress.

Of course, fans have come to expect this annual tradition. It’s like the changing of the seasons or the sound of a revving engine—it’s just part of the natural order of things.

One fan tweeted: “I always look forward to your yearly dose of inspiration,” while another simply said: “Yayyyyy!!! Was waiting for this.”

The tradition has become as much a part of results day as the envelopes themselves.

Clarkson’s tweet arrives in the wake of Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson’s comments that A-level results this year are expected to be “broadly in line with last year,” with students across the country bracing themselves for what’s inside those dreaded envelopes.

But while Phillipson revealed she got four A grades back in her day, Clarkson’s yearly confession of a C and two Us serves as a reminder that success doesn’t always follow a straight path.

Over the years, Clarkson’s tweets have become a timeline of his post-exam life, with each year’s tweet offering a glimpse into the luxuries his not-so-stellar grades didn’t prevent him from enjoying.

Who could forget 2014’s classic line: “If your A level results aren't joyous, take comfort from the fact I got a C and two Us. And I have a Mercedes Benz”?

Or 2016’s gem: “If your A level results are disappointing, don’t worry. I got a C and two Us, and I’m currently on a superyacht in the Med.”

As time went on, the tweets became even more elaborate, with Clarkson boasting about everything from deciding which Range Rover to use in 2018 to renting a luxury villa in 2019.

And in 2020, he casually mentioned: “A level results not great? Don’t worry, I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently building a large house with far reaching views of the Cotswolds.”

If that’s not a flex, we don’t know what is.

By 2023, Clarkson had upgraded to owning a brewery, which he cheekily noted while “drinking its produce in the south of France.”

This year’s tweet about opening his own pub is just the latest chapter in the Clarkson chronicles, proving that while the grades might not have been top gear, his career certainly has been.
