Filming for The Thursday Murder Club is well and truly underway, and it seems Richard Osman is having the time of his life hanging out with some major Hollywood names.

The beloved cosy crime novel is being adapted for the big screen and Netflix too, and already has a stellar cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie.

The Thursday Murder Club follows four members of an “unorthodox but brilliant gang” - Elizabeth (Mirren, Joyce (Imrie), Ibrahim (Kingsley) and Ron (Brosnan) - who turn their peaceful retirement village into a hot-spot for solving unsolved murders.

Iconic director Chris Columbus is at the helm of the big screen adaptation, but The Thursday Murder club set was recently visited by another movie legend, Steven Spielberg, whose production company, Amblin Entertainment, is behind the film.

Alongside a picture of Osman with the Indiana Jones filmmaker smiling in the sunshine, the author jokingly wrote: “On the set of #TheThursdayMurderClub Steven Spielberg meets a competition winner.”

Fans loved seeing the talented pair come face-to-face, with one follower commenting: “This is so brilliant. I bet you can’t believe it. But the rest of us can. Good things happen to good people.”

“I am beside myself with excitement about this,” wrote another.

Spielberg is in good A-List company too, with the likes of Doctor Who’s David Tennant, Game of Thrones star Jonathan Pryce, The End of the F***ing World's Naomi Ackie, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget's Danny Mays and Killing Eve's Henry Lloyd-Hughes also lending their talents to the big-screen retelling.

Also in the packed-out cast are Richard E. Grant, Tom Ellis, and Sarah Niles alongside Doctor Who star, comedian and wife of Richard Osman Ingrid Oliver; Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Geoff Bell; and Raiders of the Lost Ark’s Paul Freeman.

We don’t yet know when The Thursday Murder Club will be released, but we do know it’ll be out both on Netflix and in cinemas.

Osman previously said about the incoming adaptation: "I'm so proud of this book, so it is a dream to see The Thursday Murder Club in such incredible hands. From Chris Columbus, to Amblin to Netflix, there are geniuses everywhere I look. And what a cast. I'm pinching myself."

The official logline for the movie says: “The story follows a group of friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun, but find themselves caught in a real case.”
