The X Files star David Duchovny has opened up about reliving his years as Fox Mulder now whispers of a reboot have come to light.

The actor famously starred alongside Dana Scully actress Gillian Anderson in the cult classic paranormal drama, which originally aired in September 1993 and ran until 2001, before coming back for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018.

The X Files creator Chris Carter recently confirmed a reboot of the beloved sci-fi show was in the works, with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler at the helm this time around.

The planned reboot does not involve the original show’s creator, Carter, in any way, but there’s still a question mark over whether fans will ever see Mulder and Scully on the small screen together again.

One thing that is for certain though is David’s appreciation of the X files fandom, and during an exclusive chat with virginradio.co.uk, the actor-turned-musician revealed how it’s felt to experience the ongoing love for the show 30 years after it first aired.

“It's impactful,” David enthused. “It's just a testament to the power that the show had at its time."

It’s a feeling David knows all too well, as he explained: “I love music from when I was 10 to 15. I still love new music and all that, but the songs that got into my soul were like from 10 to 18. I feel like movies and certain television shows can be like those songs as well.

“I think they remain inside people. I think that's what it feels like, like that was part of your childhood, or that was part of your young adulthood. It spoke to you, and I think that speaks to the strength of the creators of the show, people like Chris Carter and [Glen] Morgan,  [James] Wong and Vince Gilligan, in the scripts that they were able to write.”

When we quizzed David about the future of The X Files, he played it pretty coy, telling us: “I don't know. It's all hypothetical stuff. All I’ll say is I'm not keeping anything hidden. If I have any information on The X Files in the future, I will share it. I'm not keeping anything in the dark.”

Before we wait to hear more X Files news, David will make back-to-back performances, with his first stop being O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire for a special one-night-only show, before heading up to Henham for his first-ever UK festival performance at Latitude 2024 on Sunday (28th July).

The Californication star confessed fans could very well hear some brand new material when he hits the Latitude stage.

“I think it’s really fun to try out stuff,” he said. “Especially when you're not entirely sure of it. We're recording the fourth album right now. It's almost all recorded, and we haven't performed these songs live, we haven't rehearsed them, so it might be fun.

“I always like the energy, it’s like rehearsing on film, you really don't know how it's going to go. That gives it a certain kind of danger that I like.”

David will be in good company when he lands at Latitude on Sunday, with fellow actor Damian Lewis performing with his band just the night before.

There are also some massive headliners getting ready to hit the stage, with Kasabian, London Grammar, Keane and Duran Duran performing their biggest hits. Rick AstleySeasick Steve, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Rag ‘N’ Bone Man and The Darkness are among the fan-favourite performers also on the line-up.

David Duchovny in Concert takes place on Saturday 27th July at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Tickets are on sale now.

Latitude Festival will take place at Henham Park, Suffolk, from 25th to 28th July 2024. Tickets for Barclaycard presents Latitude are on sale now.
