Daisy Edgar-Jones has revealed she’s no longer taking part in the upcoming biopic of legendary musician Carole King.

The Twisters actress was set to star as the You Got A Friend singer in the movie based on the West End show, Beautiful, with her role being confirmed back in 2022.

In a new interview with Variety, Daisy confessed she was no longer attached to the project, despite training her musical skills to tackle the role.

The Normal People star revealed: “That’s no longer happening. I love Carole and I love that story, but it was a year ago that they decided [to no longer pursue it].”

Eager to impress, Daisy even honed her piano skills in preparation, adding: “I did learn a lot of piano. I think it’s a gorgeous story, and the script probably needs a little more time in the oven.

“But I did meet Carole King on Zoom, and I was like, ‘This is the coolest thing ever.’ She really enjoyed Normal People, so she was a fan of that and I was a fan of hers.

“I get so starstruck by musicians, much more than actors, and Carole was one where it was quite hard to keep my cool.”

Sources told the publication that the Carole King biopic is still very much in development without Daisy, and shared: “When news of her involvement broke in 2022, her deal was not yet closed and last year’s writers and actors strikes delayed the project further.”

When Daisy’s name was first mentioned for the role of Carole, the singer herself admitted she was keen for the actress to portray her, telling Variety at the time: “Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance.”

She might not be playing Carole King, but Daisy is focused on her latest Hollywood blockbuster, Twisters

The sequel to 1996 cult classic Twister sees Daisy’ character Kate Cooper face some terrifying weather elements, and while she avoided on-set injuries, she did experience some temporary hearing loss.

“I couldn’t hear for a while because of the fans, so that was wild,” she shared to virginradio.co.uk and other press at the recent European Premiere. “They were just very loud… but no injuries!” she added happily.

Also speaking with virginradio.co.uk at the Twisters premiere in London last night (8th July), fellow lead star Glen Powell shared how filming the 90s movie sequel led him to exhaust not one but four trucks.

“It's hard to look ridiculous chasing tornadoes in a big truck and with a great cast around. It's just, it's the dream,” the actor gushed.

“We got to do some wild stuff with that truck," he then added. "We had four of them, and I think we went through all of them!”

Twisters sees twister-fearful Kate lured back to the dangerous open plains of Oklahoma by her storm-chasing friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) in order to test a groundbreaking new twister tracking system.

Soon the pair cross paths with social-media famous storm-chaser Tyler Owens (Powell), just as the storm season intensifies and the group’s storm-based predicaments multiply in size and dangerous ferocity.

Twisters will be released in cinemas on Wednesday, 17th July.
