Get ready for some serious sword-swinging. Death in Paradise star Sara Martins - aka DS Camille Bordey - is heading towards more death and destruction in Amazon Prime Video's new drama, Those About to Die.

The former DIP favourite, who left in 2015, will make her mark in the upcoming fierce Gladiator-style historical drama later this month.

The star-studded lineup of the Roman elite-inspired show also includes Sir Anthony Hopkins, Iwan Rheon, Tom Hughes, Jojo Macari, Rupert Penry Jones and Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and is directed by Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpainter.

The official synopsis reads: "Those About To Die is an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told—the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties."

“Life is of little value in Rome, living in the shadow of the rich and powerful, but all of this is about to change,” Hopkins’ Emperor Vaspasian warns in the trailer. “Soon I shall cross to the kingdom of darkness, but nothing is more important that protecting our beloved Rome.”

Martins previously told What's On TV about her exit from Death in Paradise: "I've loved everything about the show.

"But the only way to grow in life is to take risks, even if it means losing something you love, or leaving a place that's comfortable.

"You should always go forward and take new challenges. The unknown is so seducing, although it's scary."

Those About to Die will be available to stream on Amazon Prime from 19 July.
