Get ready for more laughs and drama as Amanda navigates single parenthood and teenage turmoil in the new series Amandaland.

Motherland fans, rejoice! The BBC has just announced a brand-new spin-off series, Amandaland, which will follow the hilarious and tumultuous life of Amanda, played by the fabulous Lucy Punch.

After three successful series of the BAFTA award-winning show Motherland, it’s time for Amanda to take centre stage.

Post-divorce, Amanda is leaving her posh life behind and downsizing to the not-so-glamorous South Harlesden, cheekily rebranded by estate agents as SoHa (though it's a bit too close to Wormwood Scrubs for comfort).

With her kids, Manus and Georgie, now in secondary school, Amanda has to navigate the perils of modern motherhood.

We're talking teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts, and eco-anxiety—troubles that would make any parent reach for the wine bottle.

Amanda’s mother, Felicity, played by the legendary Joanna Lumley, is also on the scene. Felicity is a cocktail of denial and sass, refusing to admit she’s lonely, while Amanda juggles her mum's backhanded compliments and veiled criticisms.

Their relationship is a masterclass in passive-aggression, making for perfect comedic fodder.

And let’s not forget Anne, the ever-loyal minion, I mean, friend, played by Philippa Dunne. After a brief respite from Amanda's demands, Anne is pulled back into the chaos, helping Amanda navigate the new social scene at her children’s school. Thank God for Anne indeed.

Tanya Qureshi, Head of Comedy at the BBC, is thrilled about the new direction. She said: “Motherland continues to be one of the most loved comedies on the BBC, and we’re so pleased we are carrying on with the story, taking the characters in a new direction and to a different postcode. Lucy, Joanna, and Phillipa are three of the funniest comedy actors around, and we’re thrilled to have them on board.”

Sharon Horgan, Co-Founder of Merman, is just as excited. “Motherland took off in a way that none of us were expecting, and it’s just so exciting that we get to continue to make this next chapter of parenthood and friendship. We have new parents, a new school, and new problems to look forward to. We can’t wait to get going on it.”

Clelia Mountford, Co-Founder of Merman, added: "Viewers are in for a treat! It’s been so rewarding seeing how the complexity of Amanda’s character has developed; the relationship with her mother, life as a single parent, and her fledgling career. It’s a joy to be working with such incredible comedy talent such as Lucy, Joanna, and Phillipa once more.”

So, get ready for more laughs, more drama, and more Amanda as she takes on the trials and tribulations of single motherhood, teenage kids, and a not-so-glamorous new life.

With the comedic genius of Lucy Punch, Joanna Lumley, and Philippa Dunne, Amandaland promises to be a hilarious and heartfelt continuation of the Motherland saga.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the series, this spin-off is set to deliver the same sharp wit and relatable humour that made Motherland a hit.

Don’t miss the chance to catch Amanda’s next chapter.

Amandaland is coming soon to BBC One and iPlayer, so prepare for more laughs, more chaos, and a whole lot of fun. It’s going to be a wild ride!
