Twelve years after first auditioning for The X Factor, Rylan Clark has admitted he’s been releasing music under the radar, but for other people.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner, who went all the way to the quarter-finals of The X Factor, went quiet on the musical front after turning towards TV opportunities, but it seems the urge to write songs never left.

During a new episode of the Table Manners podcast with Jessie Ware, Ryan confessed that he’s been releasing new music for artists, but not under his own name.

"I write music. So I've done quite a lot of songs,” he told host Jessie, before adding that some of those tracks he’s put out have done well on the charts.

"Some have been released, but not under 'Rylan' and they've done well, which is fun. I've released a couple of tracks, yeah, that have done well and I'm happy with."

When asked why he didn’t want to release under 'Rylan', or share who the songs were for, the Eurovision star insisted he’s “not ready for that” just yet.

He continued: “Honest truth, because I think where I started out on X Factor and... I had a very easy role to play on that show and that was to be the one that everyone talks about.

“My job wasn't to sing on X Factor. I think if Joe Public read tomorrow 'Rylan's bringing out a CD' people would go 'shut up' and it would already be prejudged.”

“I've been really lucky over the last 12 years - I've been successful in my career. I've done really, really well. And this hand is telling me 'don't tell people it's you because they'll prejudge' but then there's this sort of like curiosity killed the cat hand going 'could you do it all again, like from scratch?'"

Rylan was on Table Manners alongside friend and co-star Rob Rinder, who have teamed up for a new travel show - Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour

The three-part series sees the duo follow in the footsteps of Romantic poet Lord Byron and other Grand Tourists, immersing themselves in the art, culture, bad behaviour and life-changing exploits of historic Brits abroad.

Having faced the break-up of their marriages in recent years, Rylan and Rob hoped that the tour will kick-start a new chapter in their lives.

Episode one, set in Venice, saw the Celebrity Gogglebox star make a heartbreaking admission, telling Rob: “I think it was a culmination of my marriage breaking down and actually me stopping for the first time in 10 years. Then, all of a sudden, I hit quite a big speed bump, and instead of carrying on, I was just sunk. It was the worst experience of my life. I just went on a downward spiral. I tried to end it, I tried to finish myself off. I didn't eat, I went down to 9 stone."

The show has proved to be a hit with fans. One wrote on X: “I’ve never laughed & cried so much. Please can we have more shows with these two wonderful people.”

Responding to all of the positivity towards the series, Rylan himself posted on X: “Wow, we never expected this reaction to the show. Thank you so much for the love. It’s so welcome x”

Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour airs on BBC Two on Sundays at 9pm and streams on BBC iPlayer.
