Will Ferrell is about to make his mark on the TV world by taking on his first leading role in a scripted comedy series for Netflix.

The Hollywood funnyman, best known for his smash-hit comedies including Step Brothers, Elf and Anchorman, will front a new scripted series called GOLF, which (unsurprisingly) is all about the world of the professional sport.

Will’s TV comedy debut will see him portray a fictional golfing legend, and while other plot details are currently under wraps, we do know that Poor Things star Ramy Youssef will also star in the 10-episode run.

Prior to GOLF, Will cut his telly teeth while on Saturday Night Live in the US, where he got his start in 1995, before moving on to the likes of guest starring roles in 30 Rock and The Office.

Netflix are currently making a number of exciting announcements as part of their 2024 Upfronts, and fellow comedy icon Adam Sandler will return to one of his most memorable characters for the streamer.

They confirmed on Wednesday (15th May) that 1996 movie Happy Gilmore will be getting a sequel, with Sandler once again playing Happy. In the original movie, the hockey player with anger management issues discovers he’s good at golf, with his unconventional swing meaning he could drive the ball incredible distances.

The first film was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy and directed by Dennis Dugan. It also features Julie Bowen, Bob Barker and Carl Weathers in supporting roles.

Having shared the exciting news at its Upfront presentation, Netflix then took to X to spread the word, writing: “Happy Gilmore is back! Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix.”

No news has been announced about who, aside from Sandler, will appear in the sequel. There are also no plot details at this stage, and no release date.

Sandler has certainly been finding the green lately, as he topped the list of best-paid actors of 2023, earning a massive £57 million.
