As sunshine finally comes out to play, it means we’re finally getting close to blockbuster season at the cinema!

From the likes of high-octane stunt action in The Fall Guy, to gritty romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding, there are a number of must-watch movies hitting the big screen in May, and virginradio.co.uk have the ones you should keep an eye on!

The Fall Guy (2nd May)

Get ready to watch Hollywood leading man Ryan Gosling get chucked about the place in this new action-packed blockbuster - The Fall Guy.

Based loosely on the TV series of the same name from the 1980s, The Fall Guy stars Gosling as Colt Seavers, an ageing stuntman.

Fresh from an almost career-ending accident, Colt has to track down missing movie star Tom Ryder (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life (played by Emily Blunt).

Love Lies Bleeding (3rd May)

Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian are at the helm of this retro thriller, Love Lies Bleeding.

Set in 1989, the Rose Glass-directed film follows a relationship between an ambitious bodybuilder and reclusive gym manager, who turns out to be part of a major crime family.

The Truman Show star Ed Harris, Jena Malone and Dave Franco also star.

IF (17th May)

Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinkski join forces for their family-friendly adventure, IF

Starring the charismatic Reynolds, the movie introduces us to a whimsical world where imaginary friends, or IFs, take centre stage.

Alongside The Walking Dead star Cailey Fleming, Ryan is tasked with finding new friends for the IFs, as their original companions outgrew them.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (24th May)

Anya Taylor-Joy steps into the shoes of Charlize Theron for the Mad Max prequel, Furiosa

Joy plays the titular character originally played by Theron in Fury Road, and George Miller is also back on hand to direct the spin-off, dubbed Australia’s biggest production yet.

Chris Hemsworth will also make his big screen return as Warlord Dementus, who has snatched a young Furiosa from her home at the Green Place of Many Mothers. The film follows her desperate pursuits to return home through the Wasteland.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (24th May)

The Planet of the Apes franchise continues with the 10th movie in the series.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set 300 years after the modern trilogy’s events, but shows a world where the legacy of Serkis’ Caesar is still very much alive.

Teague plays Noa, a conscientious ape who teams up with human Mae (Freya Allan) to oppose the tyrannical plans of ape leader Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand).
