The mother of Gogglebox star George Gilbey has revealed her final conversation with her son before his tragic death last month.

George died in March from traumatic head and torso injuries after he fell through a skylight while working on a roof.

Now his mum, Linda McGarry, who starred alongside him in hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox, has told The Sun: “It was an honour for him to have been my son. We had a blast for 40 years.”

Regarding her final conversation with George, she explained: “He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working – and asked me for his ‘breakfast money’

“I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine.”

She continued: “He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, ‘I love you’ like he usually did. I treasure those words.”

In the interview, Linda also explained how George was hoping to earn enough money to rent a place near his eight-year-old daughter, Amelie, in London.

George first appeared on Gogglebox between 2013 and 2018, with Linda and stepdad Peter. He went into the Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.

During its episode on Friday 29th March, Gogglebox paid tribute to George by including a photo of the family together in the final moments of the episode. “In loving memory. George Gilbey 1984-2024,” the on-screen title read.

Meanwhile, the Gogglebox X account posted a tribute, writing: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time.”
