A fantastical and comedic drama is set to re-imagine the tale of Lady Jane Grey and give it an uplifting twist.

Based on the best-selling novel by Cynthia Hand, the Prime Video series is set in the 16th century and sees Lady Jane Grey avoid the executioner's axe and instead have a fun and fulfilling life, filled with romance and adventure.

The real Lady Jane Grey was queen for just nine days in July 1553 and the following year, but in this retelling of events, the damsel in distress saves herself - and then the kingdom.

The official synopsis for the show says: "Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded in 1553... F*** that. We're retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up."

With the eight-part series set to land in June, some first-look pictures have been shared, showing some of the cast in their period dress. Have a look here:
