The Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood has just announced a whole host of big names will be joining its cast.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will draw the main story’s focus away from the current trials and tribulations of Caitríona Balfe’s Claire and Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser, but stay close to both’s family history through focusing instead on their parents’ life stories.

Set first in the early 18th-century Scottish highlands, the series will follow Jamie’s mum and dad Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) as they attempt to set up a life for themselves amongst the area’s warring clans.

Joining the cast to illustrate this story will be Ozark and Payback actor Peter Mullan, who will star as the Laird of Clan MacKenzie, Red Jacob MacKenzie. Meanwhile, Time’s Brian McCardie has been cast as Isaac, the leader of Clan Grant.

Jhon Lumsden has been cast in the role of Malcolm, Isaac’s son, who will be set up as a potential husband for Ellen. Plus, Endeavour’s Sara Vickers has been cast as Davina Porter, a housekeeper who will go on to be the mother of Jamie’s father.

But Blood of My Blood’s focus will not be entirely on Jamie Fraser’s past. As previous release statements have revealed, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine will both also be joining this 10 episode series to play Claire’s World War I-based parents.

No release date has been announced for Outlander Blood of My Blood just yet, but excited fans can likely expect that the series - which is currently in production alongside the main show’s eighth instalment - will likely air sometime after the original’s season seven part two airs later this year.

Outlander’s final season was delayed by last year’s writers and actors’ strikes in America, but is now expected to air in November 2024.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will air on MGM+ in the future.
