A-list film star Michael Douglas couldn’t believe it when it was revealed that he is related to another big name actor.

The Basic Instinct star appeared on a series called Finding Your Roots, which is the US version of the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?. It allows celebrities to view their ancestral histories, learn about familial connections and discover secrets about their lineage.

It was on the show that the actor was informed that his “DNA cousin” is none other than Scarlett Johansson.

Finding Your Roots presenter Henry Louis Gates Jr explained that the two stars “share identical branches of DNA on four different chromosomes. All of which appear on Scarlett’s maternal lines, which stretch back to Jewish communities in Eastern Europe.”

Upon learning of his connection to the Lost in Translation actor, Michael said: “You’re kidding? “That’s amazing. Alright! This is cool! This is so cool!”

He added: “That’s incredible. I look forward to seeing Scarlett next time.”

The two celebs previously appeared together in Avengers: Endgame, with Michael playing Hank Pym and Scarlett portraying Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.

The same episode of Finding Your Roots also revealed that Girls creator, writer and actor Lena Dunham is a distant relative of Curb Your Enthusiasm legend and Seinfeld creator Larry David.

“It’s Larry David – the other LD!” she exclaimed. “This is the hottest information I could have ever gotten!”

In a 2021 episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, comedy star Josh Widdicombe learned, to his utter disbelief, that he is related to King Henry VIII's second wife Anne Boleyn, AND to both King Edward I and King Philip of France.

Josh and Dara Ó Briain recently joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar to tell the”‘unbelievable” true story behind their new podcast. You can read all about it here.
