Ahead of the second episode of new Channel 5 drama Love Rat tonight (13th March), a couple of preview clips have been released to tease what we can expect.

The series premiered last night with the first instalment, in which divorcee Emma (played by Sally Lindsay), head off on a solo holiday in Cyprus. She meets a charming hotel owner called Niko (Gerald Kyd), and they soon begin a romance.

Niko sweeps Emma off her feet to the point that, when he asks her to move in with him and wonders if she might be able to lend him a couple of hundred grand to secure the purchase of a villa, she says yes.

Big mistake. Huge.

Before you can say, “Hmm this sounds like a scam,” Niko has vanished and Emma is £200,000 in the hole.

When it turns out that the villa belongs to another couple and that her bank account has been emptied, Emma panics, and the episode closes with her being arrested after a meltdown at the bank.

In two preview clips from tonight’s episode, we see some of the aftermath. In the first clip, Emma and her daughter Susie (Imogen King) are told there is nothing the police can do to help her. Watch it here:

A second clip from episode two sees Emma’s ex-husband Pete (Neil Morrissey) on the phone to her. He is trying to persuade her to come home.

“I’m not your problem any more, so it’s none of your business,” she tells him

He replies: "You made it my business when you lost all of our money."

"Emma snaps back: "Er, that was my money. I think the judge was very clear about that.”

In a desperate position, Emma sets out to locate Niko and get her money back, and consequently finds herself in a shadowy underworld of con men, where nothing is as is seems. But will she uncover an even more twisted truth as she battles for justice?

Love Rat continues at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5, every night this week until Thursday 14th March.
