Ricky Wilson has told Virgin Radio listeners about performing with Masked Singer runner-up Alex Brooker in the 2024 final, and how he thought he would be singing a different song.

Ricky came second in last year’s competition, dressed as Phoenix. Having played Lionel Richie’s classic hit Dancing on the Ceiling during his Virgin Radio Drivetime show on 27th February, Ricky said: “I know that song pretty well. I had to learn it for The Masked Singer. Not when I was on it, when I went on it a couple of weeks ago with Alex Brooker, who came second.”

The Kaiser Chiefs frontman explained, however, that he wasn't expecting to sing that particular song. "Now, I had to learn that song quite quickly and it's quite difficult… especially when 12 hours before they say you're singing River Deep - Mountain High with an Air Fryer. And then they call and say, ‘Unexpectedly, Bigfoot’s gone through and Airfryer is out, so now you're doing Dancing on The Ceiling with a Bigfoot’!”

Bigfoot was Alex Brooker, who came second behind winner Piranha, who was unmasked as McFly’s Danny Jones.

The Last Leg star Alex recently talked about his experience on the Masked Singer on the Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown podcast. He said: “On the final, they got me to duet with Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs. And he'd come second the year before. He came into the rehearsal and he just said to me, ‘Well, I thought I'd done alright last year until I saw that you got to the final.”

Reacting to this, Ricky told Virgin Radio listeners: “I can’t actually argue with that. It's exactly how it happened!”

Meanwhile, Ricky has also reacted to thousands of Leeds United fans singing Kaiser Chiefs’ I Predict a Riot following their team’s huge win against Leicester at the weekend. Read what he had to say here.
