‘Goosebumps’ - Ricky Wilson reacts to football crowd singing Kaiser Chiefs’ I Predict a Riot

When Leeds United secured a big win at the weekend, their fans celebrated with a mass singalong. And the song in question? I Predict a Riot by Kaiser Chiefs, who are of course fronted by Virgin Radio’s very own Ricky Wilson.

Leeds, who are pushing for promotion to the Premier League, went 1-0 down against league-leaders Leicester in the 15th minute, and seemed destined for defeat when they were still behind with ten minutes of the game remaining. 

However, a thrilling late comeback saw them pull off a cracking 3-1 win, sparking joy in the stands at Leeds’ home stadium, Elland Road. After the match, the jubilant crowd belted out the 2004 classic, I Predict a Riot. 

Kaiser Chiefs, of course, originated in Leeds. 

A video of the celebratory singalong was posted on Leeds United’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, and soon went viral, with many accounts, including the Kaiser Chiefs, reposting it.

On his Virgin Radio Drivetime show on Monday (26th February), our Ricky reacted to the video, saying: “Are you aware that I'm from Leeds? Are you aware that Leeds is a football team. They’re called Leeds United. And they had a big win at the weekend. They beat Leicester. And I know that 98 percent of you are not Leeds fans, but hearing them sing this song, it was incredible.”

Playing audio from the stadium, Ricky said: “Come on! Come on! I mean, that’s goosebumps!”

He added: “I was involved in writing that. It's incredible! Well done Leeds, not just for winning but also singing that song. Well done everybody involved in that. It makes me feel very happy to be part of, not just the North, but also music because it's brilliant that everyone knows the words to something, innit?”

Leeds United currently sit in The Championship promotion places. Imagine the singalong if they get promoted at the end of the season!
