Call the Midwife has shared a worrying first look at Trixie’s storyline ahead of this Sunday (3rd March)’s series 13 finale.

In the photos, a tearful-looking Trixie (Helen George) can be seen on the threshold of her beloved Nonnatus House.

These pictures seemingly hint that episode eight will see her continue to struggle with the question of whether she stays in Poplar or follows her husband Matthew (Olly Rix) to New York.

The photos also show that episode eight will see Trixie’s brother Geoffrey (Christopher Harper) return to the screen.

It looks as if Geoffrey will be around to comfort Trixie in her time of trouble, but by the looks of him, his involvement may be another tear-jerker for fans.

Episode seven had fans in tears as it saw Trixie and Matthew completely broken apart as a result of Matthew’s bankruptcy, with the former Aylward Estate board member eventually choosing to leave the UK to try and recover his fortune abroad.

But despite his invitation for her to join him, Trixie seemed determined to stay in London where she enjoys her career as a midwife - a career in which the character has been settled ever since the show’s first episode.

Episode seven also saw Trixie, who has been battling sleep problems, get prescribed sleep medication from Dr Turner, leading fans to worry that the character - who has struggled with alcohol addiction in the past - might struggle with keeping to his strict advice relating to the pills.

Another of episode eight's first-look images (above) suggests this storyline will also be continued in the finale.

A full synopsis for series 13 episode eight has yet to be released, but a short synopsis reads: “Miss Higgins receives an unexpected visitor, and Sister Monica ruffles feathers. Poplar votes for its Mother of the Year.”

Therefore, the finale promises lots more drama in addition to Trixie and Matthew’s continuing storyline.

Call the Midwife continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Sunday, 3rd March, at 8pm.
