In some lovely jubbly news, Sir David Jason is set to bring Del Boy back, although not for an episode of Only Fools and Horses.

Rather, the beloved actor will reprise his role as Derek Trotter in an episode of Car SOS.

Airing next month, the episode in question will see Jason play the quick-witted entrepreneur as he helps to restore a Datsun 240k Skyline.

Car SOS host Tim Shaw told the Daily Star: “David was a special guest on an episode and I managed to persuade him to do Del Boy again.”

He added: "It's a sketch that I think will surprise people.”

Saying that managing to get Jason back in Del Boy mode was “one of the highlights” of his life, Shaw said: “It's something I never thought would happen. When was the last time we saw David playing Del Boy? I can't remember. So it was absolutely surreal."

The host continued: "I told David I had an idea for a sketch and he said, 'Oh, you want some lovely jubbly… go on then, let's give it a pop'.

Shaw’s co-presenter Fuzz Townshend told the publication: "The car was perfect for him because if you leaned against the roof, you fell straight into it. It was a bit like David's famous sketch where he fell through the bar."

Car SOS returns to National Geographic every Thursday at 8pm from 7th March. David Jason appears in episode two airing on 14th March.

Only Fools and Horses ran on the BBC from 1981 to 2003, and starred Jason alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst, as the hapless Trotter brothers.

Sir David has since reprised the role of Del Boy on occasion, including the 2021 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special where he shared a message for contestant Jay Blades,  and for the Comic Relief Red Nose Day special in 2014.

Car SOS airs on National Geographic and is also repeated on Channel 4.
