The second series of Trigger Point continues to deliver explosive story lines… literally!

Sunday night’s (18th February) action followed the final scene of last week’s episode, during which the laptop of Oliver Jenkins - a special adviser to cabinet minister Matthew Palfrey - exploded, killing Palfrey and Jenkins, amongst others.

We soon learn from Alex (Tomiwa Edun) that another drone attack is planned by The Wave in East London. Lana (Vicky McClure) and the team speed to the location, where it turns out that the bombs are not actually attached to drones, but to scooters, and they start to go off, killing at least one person.

As if Lana isn’t stressed enough, her mum then asks her to come round on the way home. She does so to find her folks in the midst of a domestic, as her mum wants to divorce her old man. They are both grieving the death of their son, Billy, Lana’s brother, who died in series one.

Soon, Lana’s day gets even worse, when Hass (Nabil Elouahabi) confronts her about the fact that she ran after a woman on the scooter and put herself in danger.

Then, The Wave post another video, which says: “The rich don’t work for you, don’t work for them. The kingdom must fall". Commander John Francis (Julian Ovenden) isn’t convinced that Alex is actually trying to help. DS Helen Morgan (Natalie Simpson) tells Lana she needs to stop picking fights with him and instead make him feel like the ideas are his. When Lana rebuffs her, Helen tells her she is “so difficult to talk to”.

Alex calls again and says that something “bigger” is coming, later today. He says he doesn’t know exactly what, but that it involves a "big house", which will be The Wave’s "crowning glory".

Francis reckons it could be Buckingham Palace, but no-one else buys into that idea and when he is gone the team discover a link to Ratea Analytics, owned by Webster King. The businessman is facing investigations into bribery and has taken a bunch of government bailouts, while raking in billions.

King is getting married out of town that day, with a guestlist including all manner of rich bods and cabinet ministers. Seems like the kind of place that The Wave would target.

Lana and Helen arrive to find some rather unhelpful private security. Webster King makes a speech while Lana has a good look around the grounds. She finds a whopper of an IED hidden in the staff toilets, which could take down the entire building. With 90 seconds left on the clock, she uses a Range Rover to drive the bomb as far away as possible. It goes off in a field as she absolutely legs it away from the explosion.

Webster King is hardly brimming with gratitude, however, and Commander Francis wants to arrest Alex, who is waiting for Lana when she arrives home.

He explains that he used to have a wife, a daughter and a well-paid job, but his daughter died two years ago at the age of 13. HIs marriage broke down. She was being bullied online and took her own life. He consequently joined a cyber group who were fighting big tech. They then became The Wave -

He says he wants to try and make up for what has happened so far. He says he trusts Lana and reveals that his real name is Benjamin. “They’re planning something else right now. I don’t know what but it’s something terrifying. They’re going to keep coming. They won’t stop. No-one in the city’s safe!” he tells her.

Trigger Point airs on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday evenings. Watch the full series on ITVX now.
