OMD perform LIVE at Virgin Radio’s Halloween party.

Virgin Radio hosted an epic Halloween party at the top of the tower, and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark came along to soundtrack the spooky spectacular with live renditions of songs old and new.

The electronic pioneers played a cracking set at the bash, which was hosted by Virgin Radio’s Leigh Francis and Ricky Wilson.

Ahead of the performance, OMD co-founder, lead vocalist and bassist Andy McCluskey told our own Graham Norton on The Graham Norton Radio Show with Waitrose, “I'm really rather looking forward to it. I do hope everybody's going to come in costume for the recording of the part of the show. That will be brilliant.”

Indeed, there were plenty of cracking costumes on display as the band played a stunning set.

Their performance featured Enola Gay, which was taken from their second studio album, Organisation, in 1980. The anti-war song was the band’s first top ten hit in the UK and is considered one of the best songs of its era and genre.

Tune in to Virgin Radio UK from 7pm on Sunday, 12th November, for highlights from the gig and Andy and Paul's interview with Jayne Middlemiss, where they reflect on their incredible 45-year friendship and career.

During their set, OMD also performed Bauhaus Staircase from their latest album of the same name. The new LP landed at the end of October.

Telling our Graham about the album ahead of their Halloween appearance, Andy explained: “I've been told it sounds more electronic than ever before, which is interesting for a band that's been a synth band all these years. I got some new synths in lockdown. Maybe that's it, new toys!”

In the build-up to the Halloween Party, Leigh Francis performed a prank on some of his fellow presenters. He managed to scare the life out of colleagues Kate Lawler, Jayne Middlemiss, Steve Denyer, Ricky Wilson and more. Have a look here.
