A documentary following comedian Rhod Gilbert’s cancer journey has impressed viewers, who have described it as “enormously moving” and “brave”.

Rhod Gilbert: A Pain In The Neck For SU2C - which aired on Channel 4 on Monday 30th October - follows the Welsh comedian after he was diagnosed with stage four head and neck cancer in June 2022.

Featuring intimate video diaries, the one-hour specials sees the stand-up undertake a personal challenge, not only to raise awareness of his condition, but also to raise funds for the cancer hospital that played a pivotal role in saving his life.

Whilst candid and raw, the show offers moments of humour as it documents the Taskmaster star’s cancer diagnosis, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and the long wait to hear if his treatment has been successful, along with “all the ups and downs of living with cancer.”

One viewer wrote: “#PainintheNeck is a hard watch but how brave to document such a terrible time and to show all parts not just the joyful moments.”

Another added: “So much respect to Rhod Gilbert for #painintheneck. What an inspirational programme and man.”

One person took to social media to simply write: “Brutal #PainInTheNeck #SU2C”

Someone else said: “Watching Rhod Gilbert documentary on his journey through diagnosis of his cancer and the treatment he had. Very emotional and also incredibly inspiring watching his bravery, as many others will also have through similar experiences.”

A viewer wrote: “Finding the honesty of Rhod Gilbert’s journey through head and neck cancer diagnosis and treatment enormously moving.”

One Rhod Gilbert fan penned: “Watching Rhod Gilbert's documentary what an incredibly brave, inspiring and honest man he is, to share his story. This has been a hard watch tonight. Glad he's feeling better now 🥺♥️. #PainInTheNeck”
