Ben Shephard addresses rumours of joining This Morning as GMB's Susanna Reid playfully reacts.

Ben Shephard, the esteemed TV personality and journalist, has responded to swirling speculations about him joining the This Morning team on a permanent basis, potentially succeeding Phillip Schofield.

Ben has been a notable presenter on Good Morning Britain since 2014 and has been making appearances on This Morning since Phillip Schofield stepped down from his daytime role earlier this year.

Recent reports suggest Ben is a strong candidate for replacing Phillip, impressing directors in the past with his stints covering for him.

His rapport with Holly Willoughby, as they occasionally shared the hosting duties on the show, has garnered appreciation from the higher-ups at ITV.

During a conversation with The Mirror on the red carpet of the Pride of Britain Awards, Ben addressed the rumours, standing alongside his GMB co-host Susanna Reid.

In a light-hearted exchange, Ben joked about the situation while emphasising that he's still an integral part of the GMB team.

Amusingly taken aback, he joked: "While I'm stood here with Susanna?!"

Susanna playfully pulled at his arm, while Ben began to highlight his sense of loyalty, saying :"What I can tell you is I'm doing some more – I'm gonna be doing some more but I'm just helping out really.

"So I've got some days coming up between now and Christmas so I'm not exactly sure but I'm still very, very much part of the furniture..." And Susanna then added: "He's very loyal."

As the conversation shifted to the perks of hosting This Morning, including a later start time and better food, Ben humorously emphasised the benefits.

He mentioned the enjoyable lie-ins and the delectable food provided on the show, saying:

"As I pointed out to Susanna and Kate, they make amazing cheesecake or curry – the food they give you is wonderful."

Susanna then joked: "We're going to have to up our food game!"

ITV, however, has clarified that no official decisions have been made regarding Ben's role on 'This Morning.' While acknowledging Ben's popularity as a presenter, they have made clear that concrete decisions are yet to be finalised.

Ben has joined a roster of TV personalities who have co-hosted This Morning alongside Holly Willoughby in the absence of Phillip Schofield. Presenters like Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, and Craig Phillips have all taken turns sharing the hosting responsibilities with Holly.

Currently, Holly Willoughby is on a break from the show following a foiled alleged plot to kidnap her. Essex Police arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap, and the investigation remains ongoing.
