Gordon Ramsay has opened up about losing his son Rocky after his wife Tana suffered a miscarriage in 2016.

The TV chef described the death of their son at 20 weeks as “really tough” during a recent interview with People magazine.

“There’s no book that guides you through that loss, and so losing Rocky was really tough.” Ramsay, 56, reflected. “Watching the trauma unfold, it’s this life-changing moment.”

Ramsay - whose former colleague Angela Hartnett recently appeared on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch - was also open about how the experience had brought his whole family closer together.

“There was this incredible celebration that she was pregnant and everything was going fine, and all of a sudden it just changes within 24 hours,” he explained. “I think if anything, it brought the whole family together.”

Gordon and Tana share five other children, 25-year-old Megan, twins Jack and Holly, 23, former Strictly Come Dancing star Matilda ‘Tilly’ Ramsay, 21, and a young son named Oscar, who is four.

“It’s hard, because we would never have Oscar if we hadn’t had Rocky,” the travel show star said in the interview.

“There was no substitute, far from it,” he added, “But it just brought us a bond that you’d never experience in a normal situation, and so it was incredible.”

The Ramsays have named their house in Cornwall ‘Rocky Bay House’ after their son, and also have jewellery engraved with his name to remember him, all of which Gordon cited as helping bring the family together and help them deal with their loss.

Their daughter Holly also has a tattoo in memory of Rocky, which Tana celebrated in a reflective Instagram post which she made to mark seven years since his death in July 2023.

Speaking about his wife in his recent interview, Gordon described her as “incredibly resilient,” adding that their kids “get a lot of strength from their mum.”

“There’s a lot of things that Tana’s done, that we wouldn’t be here today without that strength,” he said, echoing her words about her family from her Instagram post earlier this year.
