Tom Allen took to the red carpet of the National Television Awards on Tuesday evening, and was full of positivity as he did.

Speaking with virginradio.co.uk and other press on 5th September, the regular The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice contributor and former GBBO The Professionals host opened up about his thoughts on Alison Hammond joining the main hosting team for this year’s series of GBBO.

“I think there could be no better booking,” he said confidently about the This Morning host. “Alison is absolutely brilliant, she’s absolutely wonderful. And she brings all the warmth and humour that the show needs.”

Turning his focus to the show as a whole, the comedian added: “It’s going to be a wonderful series, a really stellar series… You’re going to love it!”

While being interviewed on the NTAs red carpet, Tom also revealed more about a project on which he’s currently working - a documentary celebrating ten years since the legalisation of gay marriage in England and Wales (and later Scotland) in 2014.

“I’ve been filming that today, and we’ve been having a wonderful time,” Tom revealed.

“I have never made a documentary before,” he added, before saying: “It’s been really interesting… celebrating, you know, what it meant to people at the time, what it means to people now, how far we’ve come and how much we must preserve.

“It’s been very inspiring to meet the people who made it possible,” he also said.

On the topic of The Apprentice, for which he hosts the much-loved after show The Apprentice: You’re Fired, the 40-year-old could tease very little about next year’s series 18.

“I basically know about The Apprentice as it goes out, I watch it as all the viewers do,” he told reporters asking if he could tease any more info about the show.

He did add, however, that the next season would “hopefully” air in the new year. This might mean a January air date, as it has had since 2022.

The Great British Bake Off starring Alison Hammond will air on Channel 4 in September.
