With work officially having started on the second series of hit BBC show, Beyond Paradise, Kris Marshall has revealed that the show will be “bigger”.

Speaking exclusively to virginradio.co.uk at the National Television Awards last night (5th September), Marshall, who plays Humphrey Goodman in the Death in Paradise spin-off, said that it was “a great honour” for the show to be nominated in the New Drama category.

He explained that because it's chosen by the fans, “it's really the most important of the TV awards”.

The actor added: “So, we're absolutely thrilled to be nominated.”

Despite Beyond Paradise ultimately losing out on an NTA to Netflix’s Wednesday, fans can barely contain their excitement about the series returning for a second outing. When speaking about how it feels to have viewers looking forward to it coming back, Kris said: “It's a mixture of being a relief, because it wouldn't look good for me if it didn't go very well, but also, we're absolutely thrilled. I mean, really, we love the job, we're down in Devon and Cornwall, which we're back down filming right now.”

When speaking about what fans can expect from series two, its lead actor said: “So the show is bigger. There's lots more going on. We've got trains, we've got boats, we've got big fires, all sorts going on, but it still retains the heart of the show.

“So, loads for the fans to enjoy.”

The BBC confirmed in July that filming has started on the first Beyond Paradise festive episode, alongside series two of the hugely popular crime series. “We literally got the day off to come here tonight,” Kris said. “So, we're back on set tomorrow morning. So, not too many drinks tonight! We'll be back at Christmas.”

Elsewhere at the NTAs, Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire told us that she thinks all actors are generally 'masochistic' people, especially when it comes to their work.

And Holly Willoughby said that she 'doesn't yet know' what the future holds for This Morning.
