Netflix has caused an upset on social media after the popular streamer revealed which shows would be leaving its service in September 2023.
Top of the list of those which are causing the biggest unrest due to their imminent removal are the David Mitchell and Robert Webb classic sitcom Peep Show and Jack Whitehall’s Fresh Meat.
“@NetflixUK Don’t take away Peep Show I won’t survive,” pleaded one X (formerly Twitter) user on Thursday 31st August after the news broke.
“How do I feel? Empty? Check. Scared? Check. Alone? Check,” another fan commented, quoting a scene from Peep Show in response to the announcement.
“Eventually, no one will have Netflix anymore. This is the gravity of your mistake,” another user warned after hearing that both shows would be leaving.
Peep Show will be removed from Netflix UK and Ireland on 28th September and Fresh Meat will depart two days prior on 26th September.
UPDATE: Since the time of writing this article Netflix has decided to keep Peep Show on its platform due negative fan reaction online. No comment has currently been made on Fresh Meat.
Other titles which be leaving the streaming platform next month include: Age of Rebellion (leaving on 1 September), Black Lagoon (leaving 13th September) and The Accident (heading off on 20th September).
Several films are also being removed from the platform including 13 Going on 30 and Blades of Glory, both of which will be removed on 1st September.
For those looking for alternative methods to watch their favourite sitcoms, options are available. Both Peep Show and Fresh Meat are available for free with ads on Channel 4’s online streaming service, or without ads on the platform for a subscription fee.
Both are also available via Sky Go, while Fresh Meat can also be found on Amazon Freevee and ITVX.
Netflix is no stranger to removing popular shows from its platform, a decision which often occurs due to the streamer’s licence to stream the programmes coming to an end.
In August, some of the titles which left the platform were the Tom Cruise film Born on the Fourth of July, the Netflix original film The Little Prince, and the Yu-Gi-Oh anime.
