Some heart warming news from the pyramid stage of Glastonbury Festival where a pair of baby owls have been found during Guns N Roses set, and, of course, called Axl and Slash.

Actually just one was found during the LA rockers set and named Axl by the stagehand, the second was found the next day and aptly named Slash, after the legendary guitar player. They are from a species of owl that nests in cavities, they love holes in trees and obviously because the pyramid stage is there all year and for the other 363 days it’s nice and quiet in there, their parents thought it would be a great place to make a nest, but had not banked on the likes of Guns N Roses blowing them away with tens of thousands of watts and abandoned the nest, more terrified than impressed with Slash’s guitar playing.

Both Axl and Slash, the cute fluffy ones, are now in an outside aviary at Secret World Wildlife Rescue centre and will be returned to the wild when they are big enough.

While our news outlets continue their narrative of painting China out to be the world’s CO2 baddies, how interesting that the Global Energy Monitor, the non governmental organisation that does what it says on the tin, have been analysing the actual facts and concluded that China are smashing their targets 5 years ahead of schedule!

Three years ago China’s president pledged to double their wind and solar capacity to 2100 gigawatts by 2030 and they’re going to reach that target in 2025, which rather puts our oligarch prime minister to shame. They are enjoying an explosive boom in green energy production. China’s installed solar capacity is already equivalent to over 100 coal-fired power plants and more than the rest of the planet combined –  while wind capacity has doubled since 2017. The numbers crunched by experts have them predicting China’s net emissions will start actually falling from next year!
