Soap star Danny Walters has opened up about the upcoming EastEnders Christmas spectacular following the exciting flash-forward in February.

Six Walford matriarchs Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) were left standing over an unidentified dead body in a teaser ahead of the festive special.

The star, who plays Keanu Taylor, told virginradio.co.uk and other press at the TRIC Awards 2023: "There are so many storylines that are happening every day and to make your storyline fresh and new and exciting, that's a challenge in itself. The volume of lines, the volume of material is challenging, but it's a challenge that I knew I was going to get myself involved in almost five years ago when I signed up to the show."

Speaking about the Christmas special for 2023, he said: "I wish I could really give you more juicy bits, however, we don't really know much. Whatever the audience and the fans are feeling, we're feeling the same, and it's exciting. It's really good to be a part of that and I think the flash-forward strategy is very clever.

"Sometimes with continuing dramas, you've got to be very reserved on what type of stories you can tell and what techniques you can use, but the fact that [producer] Chris Clenshaw has used this fast-forward episode, it's a very clever storytelling technique that is really interesting. I have my theories of who it could be... but all I do know is that I'm pretty sure it's going to be a male character, or a male actor we're shooting. That's all I can tell you."

On Cindy Beale's comeback, he said: "Whatever chemical formula that Chris Clenshaw is using, it is working. He's brought back some really iconic characters and he's obviously concentrating on some really good storylines."

Still delighted to be part of the Walford pack, he said: "I think I'm very humbled to be a part of the show and very humbled to be part of the award ceremony today. Any accolades that we do get, or any recognition, I think should be given to Chris Klenshaw, the producer. He's done a fantastic job, his vision and his ability and skill as a producer is fantastic. He's the captain of our ship at the moment."
