Hollywood actor Jeff Bridges has given a new health update following his cancer diagnosis.

The Big Lebowski star was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2020 after doctors found a large tumour in his stomach.

Bridges then started chemotherapy in 2021, and he’s now shared the rather positive news that the  “9-by-12-inch tumour” has reduced dramatically.

Speaking to AARP, the Old Man star confirmed the tumour has shrunk “to the size of a marble”, but contracting coronavirus during his treatment has stretched out his recovery.

He told the publication: “A lot of getting better was a matter of setting really small goals. At first they’d say, ‘How long can you stand?’ For a while, my record was 45 seconds before I’d collapse. And then they were saying: ‘Oh, look, you’re standing for a minute! That’s so cool, now can you walk 5 feet?’ ”

Suffering from coronavirus seriously hampered Bridges’ treatment, and confessed “cancer was nothing compared to the Covid”, which led the star to go into “surrender mode.”

He continued: “I couldn’t understand how you’d fight it. So I fought by surrendering, which is not the same as giving up. What I really felt at the time was love. Love was certainly magnified for me during this time. Not only from the people around me, but also the love in my own heart for them. So what I did was more like giving in to love, you know?”

Luckily for the True Grit star, he was able to make the milestones important to him and his recovery, including walking his youngest daughter Hayley down the aisle at her wedding in August.

Bridges is currently filming the second series of The Old Man, which first landed on Disney+ in September.

The Old Man series one tells the story of Dan Chase played by Bridges, who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since.

When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.

It's down to the FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper (John Lithgow) is called on to hunt him down because of his complicated past with the rogue fugitive.

It’s not yet known when series two of The Old Man will be released.
