With Ewan McGregor’s return to the Star Wars universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi in last year’s spin-off series having been praised by fans and critics alike, Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy has updated fans on the possibility of a second season.

The six-part Disney+ series saw McGregor reprise his role from the prequels as the iconic Jedi master, with the action taking place a decade after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which was the third chapter in the series of films.

The narrative of the show occurs before the events of the original film, A New Hope, where the character is played by Sir Alec Guinness.

Hayden Christensen returned as Darth Vader too, as the series dealt with the fallout of the downfall and corruption of Anakin Skywalker.

However, despite the series offering some brilliant moments, it seems that we’re not going to get another season anytime soon, as revealed by president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, on Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast: "I always hesitate to say: 'No we won't do anything more with Obi-Wan Kenobi'," she said. "Maybe what we end up doing is something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories we're doing, or eventually into a movie – who knows?”

She continued: "But right now, it's still our stand-alone limited series. We have no plans for expansion right now."

Disappointing news then, but there is still plenty to look forward to from the Star Wars universe, not least the return of Daisy Ridley, who will be back as Rey in a new film which will take place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

And there will be two other new films too. One of them will venture into the past to tell the story of the first Jedi to wield the Force, while the third will chronicle an escalating war between the Imperial Remnant and the fledgling New Republic.

There are other Star Wars projects on the way too. Check out our handy guide to all of them.
