There has been some talk recently of a third Mamma Mia! film, and now Pierce Brosnan has teased the possibility of a “trifecta” and spoken about the possibility of Meryl Streep coming back.

Following the incredible success of 2008’s Mamma Mia! and its follow-up a decade later, creator Judy Craymer recently revealed that a third ABBA-based film in the series is "in its earliest stages".

Whilst sounding a cautionary note that the project is not "official" she added that, “I know there's a trilogy there,” and that, “I do think Meryl should come back – and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna."

Now, Pierce Brosnan, who plays Sam Carmichael in the movies, has given his thoughts on whether Meryl Streep should take a chance on another instalment.

While speaking to E! News for a recent interview, he said: “Come back, Meryl, any time you like," before adding: “Please! You're always in my heart. That film is in my heart, deep in my heart.”

The films have also featured the likes of Cher, Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters and Dominic Cooper, and Brosnan suggested that the cast in general would say gimme, gimmie, gimme to the chance of coming back for a "trifecta" should the opportunity arise. “I think everyone would love to come back to make a third," he said. "There's such love and joy to it. There's a story to be told, I'm sure."

However, the Bond actor said that, should there be another film in the series, he would like there to be "no more jumping off rocks.”

He explained: “That was the scariest thing I've done."
