It’s all kicking off as the students at Waterloo Road head back for a brand new term.
Series 2 of the revival series (and series 12 overall) is returning to screens on Tuesday 16th May, and now, the BBC have dropped the very first-look at the drama awaiting the halls of the famous comprehensive.
The trailer kicks off with the pupils up in arms about the arrest of Danny Lewis at the end of the previous series, which ended in Danny stabbing his mother’s violent boyfriend Vinny on the school grounds.
Headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) can be heard saying off-camera: “I want what’s best for these kids but sometimes that means having to make the tough call.”

It seems there’s romance blossoming between Donte Charles (Adam Thomas) and Nicky Walters (Kym Marsh), with another character commenting: “The last thing she needs is you breaking her heart.”
With the “risk of going into special measures” looming over the teachers, it’s clear the stress of keeping up is getting to some members of staff, who are appearing to reach breaking point.
According to the official BBC synopsis, Headteacher Kim is “back at the helm, and this year, so is former deputy head, Andrew Treneman, played by Jamie Glover.”
This year will see “secrets come to the fore with potentially devastating consequences for those involved. Fractured relationships, brutal betrayals and life-changing moments.”
The synopsis continues: “Audiences will be kept guessing whether Kim’s old flame [Andrew] is back with good intentions or not. Meanwhile, new boy Myles (Osian Morgan), who has been let go by a football Academy and is struggling to come to terms with a life back in mainstream education, makes it clear that he’s not there to make friends, and immediately sets about making a lasting impact on the school.
“Elsewhere, love is in the air this term as new couples get together and hidden feelings come to the surface. The students and staff embark on another term of romances and friendships, all whilst navigating issues including mental health, racism, the cost-of-living crisis and being LGBTQ+.”
Waterloo Road will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Tuesday 16th May at 8pm, with all episodes available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
