Beetlejuice 2 is officially on the way with reports that original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder could be making a comeback with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega thought to be in the running as Ryder’s daughter Lydia Deetz.

The long-awaited follow-up to the 1988 cult classic comedy about a ghost who's recruited to help haunt a house is expected to begin filming in London in early May or June.

The exciting news was confirmed during the Warner Bros. CinemaCon 2023 panel in Las Vegas this week and when asked whether he would be involved in a sequel, Burton told Deadline: "Nothing is out of the question".

He added: "I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting. I try to go back to the root of everything.

"It springs from a seed and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things but it’s all very early days. We’ll set how it goes. How’s that for a non-answer?"

It is not yet known if the rest of the original cast including Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Catherine O'Hara will be back for the potentially Burton-directed sequel.

The original synopsis reads: "When the deceased couple Adam and Barbara are unsuccessful in scaring away a family that has moved into their old home, they seek the help of bio-exorcist."
