New footage from Aquaman and The Lost Kingdown has been revealed, giving viewers a much better idea of what to expect from the upcoming movie.

According to Deadline, the new trailer shows Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) trying to split his time between ruling Atlantis and the lighthouse home that he grew up in with his father, Tom (Temuera Morrison).

The footage was shown at the CinemaCon event on Tuesday (25th April) in Las Vegas and guests were also shown some of film’s actions scenes, including an undersea battle with a submarine. Fans also caught a glimpse of Arthur teaming up with his half-brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson), who was once a villain.

However, it seems the siblings must put their differences aside to defeat a common enemy.

Momoa and director James Wan also addressed the audience in pre-recorded videos, where they teased the film would be bigger and better than the first.

Wan said the sequel was “an action adventure story with a really fun bromance between Arthur and Orm. Orm was a villain the first time around, but this time Arthur needs him.”

The director also confirmed Arthur and Orm’s journey would take them to “beautiful strange new worlds” where they would meet “interesting new characters”.

It has been five years since the first film was released, so it’s fair to say fans are excited for the long-awaited sequel.

Momoa has previously teased the upcoming movie will be “a lot funnier” than the first and also suggested there might be a climate change element to the film.

He said: “It’s amazing to be able to bring awareness of what is happening to our planet. It’s not some story that’s been told over and over, [it’s a] movie about what’s happening right now but in a fantasy world.”

The actor added: “I don't want to give too much away. But we really get to speed up what is going to happen to this earth, and it's not because of aliens.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit cinemas on 20th December 2023.
